FAQ

What is Nashazora?

Nashazora is a tactical turn-based MMORPG where you catch little monsters called NZOs, build your team, and take them into battle.

What does Nashazora mean?

In Aramaic, "Nasha" and "Zora" can mean "little people". Here, those little people are the NZOs! It's a playful nod to my native language.

What are NZOs?

NZOs are the creatures you meet, catch, train, and bring into tactical battles. Each one has its own strengths and can fill a different role in your team.

How is NZO pronounced?

In English, say "N-zee-o." In French, say "N-zi-o."

What is the current state of the game?

Nashazora will soon enter a limited closed technical alpha. A small group of players will help test the game and its services. Access will not be open to everyone, announcements for new players will be shared on Discord. Features and content may change, and player progress may be reset.

Is the game free?

Nashazora will be sold on Steam as a one-time purchase, with no recurring subscription. An MMORPG needs servers and network infrastructure, which cost money to host and maintain. Creating the world, adding features, and producing the assets (3D models, 2D textures, sound effects, and music) also takes a lot of time. Buying the game helps support that work and keeps Nashazora alive.

Who is behind Nashazora?

Hey! I'm Aldo :)

I'm 35 years old, I'm a solo developer, and I started coding when I was 13. Over the years, I've tried a bit of everything: systems and application programming with Assembly, C++, D (still my favorite language <3), VB, and C#, as well as web development with PHP, JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular, and React.

I also worked with Unity and Unreal Engine before choosing Godot as my game engine.
Godot Engine
In "real life," I work as a backend developer. Nashazora brings together everything I have learned over the years: programming, graphics, 3D, networking, and everything behind it, such as marketing, communication, etc. :)

Does Nashazora use AI?

Game development began in 2022 with Unity before moving entirely to Godot in 2023. Almost all of the code is handwritten.

AI is used only for a few tooling scripts that are not critical. One example is a script that copies files and folders from the client project to the server project while making a few changes. I could develop it by hand, but honestly, what would be the point? It is tedious, you do not learn much, and it wastes time that could be used elsewhere.

Most game features were created when AI development tools were still far too limited.

This website was also originally handmade years ago. AI later helped refactor some parts of it and has been used as an editorial assistant for some paragraphs, improving wording, correcting typos, and making the text clearer.

No game assets are generated with AI. All 3D models, 2D textures, sound effects, and music are made in-house with open-source and commercial tools such as Blender, Affinity Designer (now part of Canva), Krita, and FL Studio. Some early builds used free assets from Kenney and Quaternius as temporary assets.
